| "Top Ten List" |
Wed, May 6, 2009 |
We don't feel like writing tonight, so we are making a list about Brayden. 1. He is getting his first tooth (bottom left), broken through the skin 2. He can sit up on his own now 3. He is trying very hard to crawl 4. He loves his elmo walker and chases (terrorizes) the dogs and cats (and runs over toes!) 5. He talks constantly and very loudly :-) 6. He gives lots of hugs and wet kisses 7. He pulls hair, jewelry, and noses (and daddy's ears) 8. He still hates peas (yuck) 9. His new fav toy is a rubber ducky that is dressed as a bunny (Easter gift) 10. He recognizes his family members and smiles big when he sees them

| Our little 6 month old! |
Fri, Mar 27, 2009 |
| It is hard to believe that our little guy is already to the half year mark!! He is amazing and does new things every week. He is really starting to sit up on his own and has been "walking" a little bit in his new "Elmo Walker". He wants to be in the middle of everything and loves to be sitting or standing up. He wants to check out every noise and see everything he can. At his six month check up he was a whopping 19 pounds, 3 ounces and had grown 2 inches since his last visit putting him at 26 1/2 inches long. He was in the 80 percentile for both height and weight! He has been trying lots of veggies and we are beginning on the fruit this month. He loves sweet potatoes, carrots, squash, and green beans. He is not so fond of peas. We have tried them several times, and he spits them out and makes terrible faces at us. It's pretty funny! He has only had applesauce, in the way of fruit so far. We will be trying more this month. He loves to "talk" to us and is making sounds that are the beginnings of words. He loves to touch our faces and stare at us. He laughs at silly Daddy all the time! He thinks that his noises and songs are so funny. He really belly laughs when he is tickled and boy is he ticklish! He still loves bath time and really likes to suck the water out of his washcloth, he even cries when you take it away. WE love our boy!

| First Baby Foods |
Sat, Feb 14, 2009 |
| Brayden has been eating rice cereal in his bottle since he turned 4 months old. We have given it to him by spoon a couple of times but he doesn't really seem to like it much that way. Maybe he will once we can add fruit or something to it. On Wednesday, we gave him his first real baby food--sweet potatoes. He really loves them! He has had them several times now and he is starting to get the hang of eating from a spoon. He makes a mess of course, but he really seems to like them. He gets excited now when he sees his bowls and spoons. He knows what is going to happen next when we put him in his bumbo seat and start putting his bib on him. It is so cute! We will be starting a new vegetable in a week or so. I'm adding some new pictures that Wes and I took of his first couple of eating sessions. They speak for themselves, I think!

| Pregancy weight--Ugh! |
Sat, Jan 31, 2009 |
| As some of you know, I'm involved in a "biggest loser" contest at the elementary school that I work at. I'm just trying to lose some of those last few nagging pounds leftover from being pregnant with Brayden. I started dieting a week before the contest started, basically at the first of the year, and as of today I've lost 8 pounds! My goal for the contest is to lose 15 pounds, which would put me back around the weight that I was before I became pregnant. I've always said that I wanted to lose all of the weight before we started trying for a second baby, that way I would know that I could do it again! It is really fun to be part of a team at work and the encouragement is nice to have! My friend Jaclyn and I have also been trying to walk laps around our school at the end of the day, and some more people have joined us. It is really nice to exercise before I come home from work, because once I get here I don't want to leave again. I want to play with baby boy!!

Mon, Jan 19, 2009 |
I know that I said I would be better about posting, but I didn't expect to be posting again so soon!! However, Brayden amazed me today by rolling over! He has now learned to roll over from his stomach onto his back and did it three times today. The first time that he did it was so funny. I laid him down on his blanket for tummy time and I had just helped him prop up on his forearms when he just pushed with his legs and left hand and rolled right over. I don't even think he knew what happened because he looked at me like what did I just do?! But then after I laughed and shouted hurray for him he did it again two more times. He has been doing much better with his tummy time lately and had really been raising up on his arms and lifting his head high, but I really wasn't expecting him to roll over today. I knew it was coming soon though. Well, it made my day so I just had to share. Love you guys, Proud Momma!

| 4 months old!! |
Sun, Jan 18, 2009 |
| I know it has been too long since my last post! Sorry about that, but time really does seem to fly now that Brayden is in our lives. He is four months old today and I can't believe all of the things that he is able to do now. He really amazes me and I see him do new things everyday. Christmas had a whole new meaning for us this year. It was so fun to watch him watch everything that was going on around him. He was completely in awe of tissue paper and thought that it might be something enjoyable to eat! Which of course made all of the rest of us laugh! He is enjoying all of the new toys that he received, he got so many things!! He went to the doctor this last Friday for his 4 month check and he is growing like a weed! I'll post about that in "Baby's Corner". He can now roll onto his side (almost onto his back from his stomach) and, he is totally aware of his hands and feet now and what they can do for him! He laughs, coos, squeals, and really seems to enjoy the sound of his own voice. He likes it if you try to copy him too. Its so funny. Well, I'll try to keep you updated better than I have but we are off to church.

| Thankful |
Wed, Nov 26, 2008 |
With tomorrow being Thanksgiving, I wanted to write a few things that I'm thankful for. . . . 1. My new blessing, Brayden Wesley Pruett. He is the best thing that has ever happened to me. I'm very thankful that God has given him to us. I enjoy seeing him grow and change every day and his little smile and laugh melt my heart. 2. My hubby, Wes. I can't believe that this April we will have been married for 6 years! I'm thankful that he puts up with me! He is the funniest guy I know and makes me laugh every single day. He is the love of my life! 3. My mom, for all of the things that she has done to make my life better. I can't count all of the times that she has helped me, listened to me, and loved me. She's the best. 4. My in-laws. Steve and Ba have always made me feel like a member of the family/part of the gang! I've always enjoyed seeing my brothers-in-law and Wes interact. They are hilarious together and make the rest of us laugh. I'm especially thankful that this year I have a new sister-in-law! Molly's the best. She's so fun and the cutest thing ever! It's good to have another girl around with all those boys. 5. Friends. We are blessed with great friends that support us and are so much fun to hang out with. I've always liked the saying that "Friends are the family that you choose". 6. Our jobs. We are blessed to have great jobs that we enjoy. It's nice to go to work because you like it, not just because it pays the bills. Quick note: Wes has now been working at the airport for over a year! That was such a prayer answered! I know that I have many more reasons to be thankful this year, but those are a few that I wanted to share. Thank you God for all of your blessings, we know that every good thing comes from YOU.

| 2 month check up |
Thu, Nov 20, 2008 |
I took Brayden to his 2 month check up today and this is what we found out: His weight is now 12 pounds 9 ounces and his length is 23 1/2 inches. He is really growing! He was in the 70th percentile for his age in weight and length. At this visit he had to have shots. I guess it wasn't as bad as I had made it out to be in my head, but it wasn't fun either. He had one vaccine that he took by mouth. I guess it didn't taste too bad, because he didn't even flinch. Then the bad part was that they had run out of the shots that give multiple vaccines but only ONE prick. So, he had to have FIVE pricks in his little legs!! Two pricks in one leg and three pricks in the other one. Poor baby. Of course he screamed and turned bright red when the shots were given, but once it was over he was fine and fell asleep on the ride home. I gave him infant tylenol and a bottle when we got home and now he is napping again. He won't have another well baby check up until 4 months old (January). Anyway, that's the update!
Quick milestones: He can hold a toy in his hand if you place it there. He has rolled on to his side from his back and vice versa. He smiles, almost laughs, and he coos (baby talk). He pushes with his legs and can stand up on you with help. He is doing better about holding his head up and loves to look around at everything! He knows our voices and recognizes Wes and me from others.

| Already 2 months old |
Mon, Nov 17, 2008 |
I can't believe it, but tomorrow Brayden will be two months old! These past 9 weeks have flown by and now I truly know what others mean when they say to cherish these early moments. I will be going back to work next Monday, November 24th with mixed emotions. I know that my income is needed for our family and I enjoy my job and the kids that I teach. However, a little baby boy has stolen my heart and it is going to be very difficult for me to leave him (even if it is with his Daddy, or another family member). I will miss all of our time together and will have to squeeze it all in after I get home from work everyday to make up for it! Brayden has his two month well baby check up thisThursday, November 20th. I will post again that day and let everyone know how much he has grown and how much he weighs now. My guess is somewhere around 12 pounds, but I guess we'll see. I think he will be getting shots at this appointment, so I'm praying that goes well. I'll be going it alone since Wes has to work that day. Well, that's all for now. . . .

| Brayden's Dedication at Shady Oaks |
Sun, Nov 9, 2008 |
Today, was a very important day for our little family. Brayden was dedicated at our church during our morning service. In case you don't know what a dedication service is I'll share a little about what we do and believe. This dedication time is a chance for us as parents to dedicate our child to the Lord and to acknowledge that our child is a gift from Him. We promise in front of our congregation to teach Brayden about God and be examples to him in how a Christian should live their life. We also promise to pray for and teach Brayden about the salvation that our God offers to him and help him make that decision in his life when he is ready. This is not a baby baptism, because we believe that baptism is something that comes after salvation as an outward showing of what God has done in our lives. Our congregation also promises to help in raising our child through being a supportive church family. The pastor led us in all of this and also gave us a little basket "full of goodies" for Brayden. One of the items in the basket was Brayden's first New Testament Bible with his name on it! All of our family attended and we went to lunch together afterward.

| quick update |
Fri, Nov 7, 2008 |
Well, it's been a little while so I thought that I would write an update. But, it will probably be short because I'm tired and baby boy has fallen asleep. . . .so that's what I'm planning to do very soon. Speaking of sleep, he is still doing great and sleeping through the night (about 6-7 hours!). We can hardly believe it. Today, we took him to Portrait Innovations to have his first photo shoot! He did awesome, especially considering that we put him into 3 outfits (well, one was just his diaper :-). He only started to melt down at the very end in his final outfit. We were so proud of how well he did and we got lots of cute shots to choose from. He even chose to SMILE really big! He is so sweet! He is really cooing at us a lot lately. We love to hear him "talk". He has the cutest little voice and he smiles at us a lot when he does it. He has also learned to splash the water in his bathtub by slamming his hands down. He doesn't do it a lot, but when he does he thinks it is just the neatest thing! I'm so glad it amuses him, because it gets me all wet! Well, I'm off to bed! Talk to you all soon.

| Amazing! |
Wed, Oct 29, 2008 |
Brayden has slept for over 7 hours the last two nights! We are in shock. . .he usually doesn't sleep for more than a couple hours at a time. We have been trying to keep him on a good schedule with his eating and bedtime routine. Hopefully this continues, but even if it doesn't the last two nights have been great! He has also been so alert and attentive lately. He has really been studying people's faces for the past couple of weeks, but now he has become very interested in his toys. He has been looking at the "little bugs" on his swing and the animals on his bouncy chair for a long time the past couple of days. He even smiles at them! It is so cute. What a sweet boy!

| 1 month check up |
Wed, Oct 22, 2008 |
| Today, we went to Brayden's one month doctor's appointment. At the appointment, Dr. Ohman weighed and measured him. He is now 10 lbs. 8 ounces and he is 21 1/4 inches long! He is really growing. The doctor said that Brayden doesn't have to get any shots until next month. Other than that, he just looked him over and talked with us about any concerns that we had. He said that Brayden looks great and is doing well! It was a good visit.

| Little Milestones |
Sat, Oct 4, 2008 |
| A lot has happened in the last two weeks, since Brayden came home from the hospital. He went for his one week appointment with Dr. Ohman. He grew 1 1/2 inches in six days!! His cord fell off on Wednesday. Yeah! We tried to weigh him today and it looks like he is now 9 1/2 pounds! He is getting so big already. I can't believe how fast he is growing. Today, he also got his first actual bath. We had been just washing him off with water or a wipe, but now that his cord fell off we could give him a real bath. He didn't like it too much, but he did stop crying once the warm water was all over him. Check out his new pictures, so cute!! My little bathing beauty.

| Brayden Wesley Pruett has arrived!! |
Tue, Sep 23, 2008 |
Sorry it has taken us so long to write, but boy are we busy now!! I started having contractions on Wednesday, Sept. 17th at around 9pm. We weren't really sure if they were real or not, but started to time them anyway. Then, with the pain and how often they were coming we realized that this might be "it"! We eventually went to the hospital around 12:30am and I was checked once I got there. I was dilated to a 3 and about 50 percent effaced and the nurse called my doctor. I was moving along well and had already dilated to a 4 within the hour, so the doctor admitted me to the hospital. My labor continued to move along steadily until after I had my epidural and then I sort of stalled out. Then Dr. Snead broke my water to speed things along. Anyway, I eventually dilated to between a 6 and 7 and was about 70 percent effaced, but Brayden was not moving down like he was supposed to. He continued to stay up too high and I was started on pitocin since I wasn't moving along as they would have liked. It stayed this way for many hours! It was decided that I needed to have a c-section, because of his position and size and my lack of progress from that point. Brayden was born at 5:23pm on Thursday, September 18, 2008. He weighed 8 pounds, 8 ounces. He was 19 1/2 inches long. He has a lot of brown hair, but very light blond eyebrows. So, we are wondering if it will change to blond like mine and Wes' when we were babies. He has dark blue eyes. He is perfect! We were in the hospital until Sunday afternoon. I hope that fills you in a little and of course we will continue to update you on him as we have the time!! ha ha

| Due Date, Plus One |
Mon, Sep 15, 2008 |
Just FYI. . .I stopped the countdown on our homepage yesterday b/c it was saying "happy birthday, brayden" and he is not here yet. I will update the countdown again once he arrives so that it shows the accurate date and information. Anyway, just wanted everyone to know why it was missing. It won't be long now!!

| "Due date" is this weekend! |
Fri, Sep 12, 2008 |
I went to the doctor yesterday afternoon for my 39th week check. I was hoping that there would be some changes that would indicate that labor would begin soon. However, I was pretty much in the same place that I have been the last couple of weeks. Which is okay. Dr. Snead reassured me that things can change very quickly and that it wasn't really an indication of when labor would begin. But, it was a little disappointing. As much as I am ready to be done with pregnancy and to start being a mommy, I couldn't be happier. This is the blessing that Wes and I had been waiting and longing for, for so long. My pregnancy has been a good one and I feel very lucky to have had the chance to experience that. There were moments when I thought that it would never happen. My doctor is a total blessing, who prays for us at every visit. This visit he asked what I wanted to see during labor. Did I want a vaginal birth or was I hoping for a c-section (we were discussing different options, having to be induced, etc)? I told him that I wanted to avoid surgery if at all possible, but that I understood that it could happen and I was okay with that. He said "Well, do you want to pray about that? Let's pray about that"! He is unlike any other doctor I have ever been to. It was a "God-thing" that we were lead to him by a friend of mine in the first place. So, after saying all of that, I'm trying to be patient and know that Brayden will come when he is ready and it is the right timing.
Everyone at work is still making their predictions about when he will arrive. Now, they think that the hurricane and the barometer falling will play its part!! ha ha ha They crack me up. I feel a little like the "watched pot" who isn't boiling, though! I have to keep saying, "Well, I guess we'll just have to wait and see". They are such fun friends and I know that they are so excited for Wes and me. Well, that's all for now. I'll keep everyone posted. . . .

| Counting down. . . . |
Mon, Sep 8, 2008 |
Okay, Sunday is the due date. . . .a few short days away. Wes and I went walking around the neighborhood tonight to try and get things going. (Yes, in the rain!) Can you tell that we are ready and anxious for this baby boy to come?? Everyone at work is making their predictions about when he will get here. I get the feeling that what they are really thinking is "YOU'RE still around"! About 5 people today came up to me to tell me that they think I've dropped more and that my belly is really low now. It makes me laugh! Not that I need any help thinking about the baby every second and wondering when he will decide to show up, but having every person that I walk by in the hallway at school discussing it only makes it more difficult to get off of my mind. My next doctor's appointment is scheduled for this Thursday at 3pm. I guess we'll see if the walking is paying off!

| 38 week doctor appointment |
Thu, Sep 4, 2008 |
There's not much to report, really. I went to the doctor this afternoon and I'm pretty much in the same place as I was last week. I'm still 2 cm dilated and softening. . . . I asked the dr. to estimate how big Brayden might be. He said that he didn't think he was all that big. He felt around all over my belly and said that he thought he was probably about 6 1/2 to 7 pounds right now, but that was just an estimate. Anyway, it was a good visit. . . .but no big news.

|
| 37 weeks and counting. . . . . |
Wed, Aug 27, 2008 |
I went to my weekly doctor's appointment today and I'm definitely dilated to a 2 now. They said that my belly is measuring perfectly, not too big or small. Brayden's heartbeat was nice and strong, and he is still in the head down position like he should be. So, hopefully since not too much has changed since last week Brayden will wait until after Monday to come. This way my doctor will be back from California and be able to deliver him. Although, we did go ahead and pack some things for the hospital just in case. On another note, I started back to work this week at school with the kids. Things have been going pretty well and I think that I have a good class this year. I have been a little more tired since starting back to work and my feet/ankles have been swollen some afternoons by the time I get home. Wes has been a sweet husband and makes sure that I put my feet up and gets my heating pad for my back when I need it. I know that we are both ready for our baby boy to get here and can't believe that it won't be too much longer!!

| Dilation baby! |
Sat, Aug 23, 2008 |
Tiffany and I went to another doctors appt today and after putting his entire gloved hand into my wife, informed us that she is between 1 and 2 cm dilated and that her cervix has softened a bit. Tiff said it freakin hurt but we were glad to hear the info. Oh he also told us that his head was down where it was supposed to be. He showed me a technique to check and i was able to feel his head (externally just in case you were wondering). After this i forgave him for violating Tiffany. All and all it was a good visit. I am looking forward to him being here. I think with the Lord's, Tiffany's and the grandparent's help, i might turn out to be a pretty good dad! I really cant wait to get him up to the fire station in his little firefighter onezy's.....i dont know how to spell that word...pronounced WON-ZEE's? anyway i want to take pictures of him on the truck wearing them. My wife looks more beautiful than ever but she doesnt think so. I guess anyone who's reading this is safe cause you know her, but i think if one more stranger starts rubbing her belly shes going to tear off their arm and beat them with it. Well im being summoned (ordered!) to help her get her classroom ready. On a final note, her doctor is going out of town next week on vacation for a week and a half................im packing my hospital bag tonight!

| Week 35 (last week of my 8th month) |
Wed, Aug 13, 2008 |
I went to the doctor last week on Thursday, Aug. 7th for my last two week appointment. Starting next week I'll be going every week from now until Brayden decides to join us. At my appointment I saw the nurse practitioner and she talked to me about a couple of things such as premature labor, false labor, braxton-hicks contractions, my water breaking, and what to do about those kinds of things. She encouraged me to call the office if I'm ever unsure of what is going on and she said to be paying attention to my body because now is the time when things like that can start to occur. She also told me from my urine sample that I have a slight bladder infection and she said that I needed to be drinking lots of water. I already feel like I drink a lot of liquids and adding more has been hard, but I've really been trying! All I notice is that I have to pee even more now!! I've still been having that breathless feeling at times, usually for no reason at all (like I bent over to pick up laundry!). I talked to her a little about that, and she assured me that it normal in the last trimester. She listened to Brayden's heartbeat and measured my belly. I asked her if she could tell if he was already in the vertex (head down) position and she said that she thought he was from feeling around on my belly and from where she found his heartbeat. I also attended a breastfeeding class on Monday, August 11th at the North Hills Hospital. It was part of our Beginner's Courses that Wes and I signed up for when we took our birthing class. I really learned a lot and hopefully it will help me. The lady that taught the class is one of the lactation specialists at the hospital. Wes is off of work this week, so we have also been busy working in my classroom to have everything ready for school to begin. We've been busy! Wes is taking his dad to the Ranger game Friday for his birthday. He got really good seats off of ebay. Belinda told me that Steve said that he did not care if they sat in the nosebleed section, and that in a few weeks, Wes would start to understand why!

|
| And so it begins. . . . . |
Tue, Aug 5, 2008 |
I went up to my school today with my friend Jaclyn to check out the situation in our rooms. What a mess! At least the walls have been painted and the floors have been waxed, but other than that I have a lot of work cut out for me and Wes to accomplish before school begins. Things are everywhere and the air wasn't turned on, except in the office. I was told that the air would be on this Thursday, so that is when I plan to return. I'm the type of person who likes to get things done in my timeframe and not being able to move boxes and furniture and stand in chairs to put things on the walls is really frustrating for me. I'm so blessed to have Wes, though. He is off of work all next week and is ready and willing to help me with whatever I need done. I know that we will get everything done in time, but standing there today looking around my room was "just a bit" overwhelming!! I need lots of prayers over the next few weeks as I prepare my room and begin my inservice training, and then of course as I begin working in my 9th month!!!

| Childbirth Class |
Mon, Aug 4, 2008 |
On Saturday, we went to our birthing class which lasted from 8:30am-5:30pm. Needless to say, it was a really long day! Normally, they hold this class on Tuesday evenings for four weeks in a row but that really doesn't fit Wes' schedule as he works 24 hrs. on and 48 hrs. off. So we went to the "crash course"! There were about six other couples there and we had two labor/delivery nurses as our instructors. They were great! One of them still works at the hospital, so she may even be there when I go into labor. The other one was retired. We started off the day hearing some of their stories, including their own labor experiences and how things have changed since then. We then watched a powerpoint that went over the different stages of labor and what to expect in each one. We played several games during the morning and got to know the other people in the class a little. I always hate when you have to go around the room and tell about yourself, but it was pretty interesting this time since everyone is going through the same thing. There was one couple whose due date is before ours but we were right behind them by a week. After all of this, we took a tour of the hospital and we were shown all over the labor/delivery floor. We even got to see two little ones in the nursery!! I loved this part. It really made me feel more comfortable knowing that I had seen these places in advance. We had lunch on our own, and Wes and I were starving by this point! After we ate lunch we came back and learned about some relaxation and breathing techniques. This part was fun (lets just say it was supposed to be more serious than we made it!), but we were tired after lunch and Wes even fell asleep!! We learned about quiet music and massage with lotion. We were supposed to keep our eyes closed while we were getting a massage but Wes and I couldn't stop laughing at each other. Then we had to lay down on the blanket and pillows that we had brought and listen to this cd that talked about relaxing each muscle in your body and played soft music, WES was out cold!! I had to keep nudging him so he would stop snoring, ha ha! We learned about breathing after that and then watched a couple more videos/had discussions and we were done. It was a good day, but again very long. We were exhausted. We came home to relax/clean up and then went to our favorite Indian food restaurant. It was a good day to just be together.
