McAllister is now one month adjusted age. April 3 was his Dr. apt and the Doctor thought it was time to take him off his oxygen. The came in checked his pulse ox and couldn't get a good reading on his big toe so they tried his foot and it was fine. We turned off the oxygen drove to Mamma Mac's work and then back to the Dr. A different nurse came in to check his pulse ox again on his big toe and it never read above 93 (it has to be above 95) so she said she will see what the Dr. says. A little bit later the first nurse came in and checked it on his foot 98 !! We went home without the oxygen but left the tender grips on b/c they aren't very fun to take off. He as done good without his oxygen and now he is a cordless/portable baby!! We still have to keep oxygen handy in case he gets a cold or something like that. He is now 22 1/2 inches long and 11 lbs 0 oz. |

| I'm HOME!!!!!! |
Wed, Mar 14, 2007 |
| On the contrary to what some people have heard or believe, McAllister is not home on oxygen b/c he was born at a particular hospital. He is home on oxygen b/c he has chronic lung disease. The only cure for this is for him to grow out of it, your lungs develop until you are around 8 or 9 years old. Even though he was a VERY good birth weight he was still 26.5 weeks the difference between a 26.5 weeker and a 28 weeker is extremly different. We are just glad he is finally home!! Thank you for all your prayers and support you will never know what it means to us!! |

| Getting closer to home. |
Fri, Mar 2, 2007 |
| The doctor called yesterday and said that McAllister is getting closer to being able to come home. He also turned 3 months old yesterday. Doctor Wright said that if McAllister stays the same that he would be able to room in and be discharged a week from this Monday. If McAllister decides that he wants and can come off oxygen and stay off it for a weeks time, then we would room in a week from the day he came off oxygen. We are all very excited and it will be a big relief as soon as we can get him to his home. |

Well, McAllister, is getting big, that's for sure. Today he weighs 7.4 lbs and is continuing to get bigger. You can't blame him, i mean he is getting 3oz of formula every 4 hours. His O2 has been about the same for a week, sometimes he can get it down really low and then they turn it back up a bit. He really isn't getting a lot of help, just about 1 or 2% more than what we all breath. I'm sure that he will get himself off that oxygen and we hope that he will be able to come home soon. |

| 6 pounder |
Sun, Feb 11, 2007 |
| Yeap as of this morning he weighs 6lbs 1.2oz. He is still getting 70ccs every four hours of food. And they have lowered his pressue from 100ml to 50ml when we left him today he was at 60%. He got a blood transfusion over the night and we hope that will help him require less oxygen but you never know. |

| Weaning off O2 |
Sun, Feb 4, 2007 |
Last night when we went to visit McAllister they had an order to lower his ML from 200 to 100 (this is the pressure that pushes the O2 in his nose). He did well with it and they only increase it back to 200 when he is eating but they haven't had to do that yet, a very good thing. She asked us today if we had taken the CPR class which might be a sign they are trying to get us ready for a room in, not any time soon but eventually. He is getting 65ccs a feeding and taking it all, the bottle they feed him from only goes to 60ccs so I think that might be the highest he gets.
McAllister also had a shower thrown for him yesterday and he received soo many great things its gonna be hard to get out thank you notes fast enough. Thanks to everyone involved it was a blast!! |

| Pig |
Mon, Jan 29, 2007 |
| Yesterday when we got to the NICU, McAllister's chart read that he wieghed 4lbs 13ozs. He's almost to the all important 5lb mark. He took both of the bottles we feed him very well. The nurses are allowing him to take anywherer from 45 to 50 cc per feed. At that rate he should be a plump little pig in no time. Oxygen is still needed, but McAllister seems to be doing better. The two prongs are suppose to be in his nose, but when we got there yesterday he had taken them out of his nose and was chewing on them. |

Soooo... the Doc prescribe one breastfeed a day. So that's what we did and he did great, the lactation lady gave him an A+, she said he did great. Now he weighs 4lbs 5.7oz and in his own clothes with his open crib and keeping his temp. great! Now just to get him off his O2...
I almost forgot to mention something great. Now that he is in an open crib you hear things you don't normally hear when they are in an isolette. He can poot up a storm and no they are not little poots they are huge. Thought is was Daddy a couple of time. He can let them rip!! You can feel them through his diaper he pooted on Mommies hand yesterday and all over Daddy today he even left dady a few presents in his diaper. |

| Free at last....Kinda |
Sat, Jan 20, 2007 |
| Today they think it is time for McAllister to try and stay in a crib rather than his isolette. He is over 4lbs and thats when they decide to try the new bed out. They also have decided to bottle feed every other feed. This is so wonderful becuase Stephanie and I can feed him each. We forgot to bring the camera tonight so we will get pictures of him in his new bed and his great outfit tomorrow. |

| and bigger... |

| 4lbs 3.1oz and getting one bottle a shift (11am and 11pm). He is now getting 36ccs a feeding. He hasn't had a brady (heart rate below 100) since the 15th which is great news. He has to go 7 days without one before he goes home, but he also has to be off his oxygen and a wee bit bigger. Its great to be at home with our other kids and we know they love it too. |

| Today we were able to start bottle feeding. McAllister seemed to do very well on his first try. He was able to take about 8cc of feed from the bottle. Thats good but we are going to continue to work with him at least once a day until he can get the hang of it. |

| Traveling like a nomad. |
Fri, Dec 8, 2006 |
| Well the little fella can't stay in one place. Today they moved him to the fourth floor which is Continous Care unit. They also removed the IV from his tummy and replaced it with a PICC that goes into his arm. That will stay in there till we get ready to go home for good. That's really about it for today. Cya later.....Go LSU....that pictures for you Uncle KC |

| Who needs assistance? |
Thu, Dec 7, 2006 |
| When Stephanie and I left this afternoon, Deuce was trying to pull out his breathing tubes that are in his nose. He did twice while we were there. The first time I was standing there looking at him like a deer in head lights. McAllister wasnt the only one that needed changing...but they fixed the problem. After we left to rest the nurse said he did it again, so they left it off for a while and he did somewhat ok. His is still on the CPAP, but without any f/min...I think they said it was assisted rates per minute. The nurse also said that they are going to try pulling the CPAP out and see how he responds. He is doing great and he is very alert and likes watching all the things going on. McAllister is also crying and screaming when the nurse makes him mad. Thanks for all the support and we'll keep everyone updated. |

| Movin' on up. |
Thu, Dec 7, 2006 |
We were so happy yesterday when we moved to our townhouse, but we were nowhere near excited today when we found out that our little boy also moved into his new place, the Airshields Isolette C2000. This is the next step up from what he was in. The nurse also said that they might turn his 10 f/min down to 5 or possible off. Wonderful!!! The IV in his belly might also go. He still will have one but it will be in his arm. |
