The High Risk Doctor Fri, Sept 11, 2009

Laura was quite nervous about her appointment with the high risk doctor. She went in for what she thought would be just another weight check and blood pressure check. She did not know what she was in for.

The doctor spent about 30 minutes going over Laura’s medical history. The doctor agree with the first doctor that it sounded like she might have a blood disorder. The doctor also did a ultrasound. During the ultrasound the doctor discovered blood in the uterus. However, the baby was fine. Laura even got to hear the heart beat. The doctor asked Laura to go to Fairfax Hospital right away for a higher definition ultrasound and in depth blood testing. Laura was also placed on pelvic rest.

Laura left and headed right over to Fairfax Hospital. Laura had another 2 ultrasounds. This is when she learned that she had a bleeding her uterus and that her cervix was measuring at 3.17. Laura knew that if her cervix went under 3 it was bad news!!

Laura had a follow up appointment with her new high risk doctor in two weeks to go over all the blood testing! fficeEmbarrassedffice" />>>

The start of the Bad News Wed, Sept 9, 2009

Laura went for her monthly checkup. Figuring it was just a weight check and blood pressure check she did not ask Dan to come. Laura met with the head doctor at the practice she was going to. During this meeting, they talked in depth about her medical conditions. Due to her past history, the doctor was sure that she had a blood disorder. Since his practice could not handle the complexity of Laura’s medical issues he referred her to a high risk practice.

Laura was quite upset and confused. She called her normal GYN and asked who to go to. She ended up calling a doctor out in Fairfax. They wanted to meet with her right away. Her appointment was scheduled for 9/11.

The Scare Wed, Aug 26, 2009

On Aug 25th, Laura started to spot a little bit. Her at home Doppler could hear the babies heart beat. Laura called the doctor the next morning. The moved her ultrasound to that afternoon.

Frantic, Laura called her husband. He was unable to come. Laura ended up inviting her Mother in Law to come!

Once in the ultrasound room, the tech went to look at the baby! You could clearly see boy parts! As you can imagine Laura and her mother in law were very excited about it seeing those parts!!  Laura’s ultrasound went ok she guessed since the tech did not say anything negative about it.

The day we found out Mon, July 06, 2009

Dan and Laura wanted to try and have kids in a year. Laura went to the doctors in May 2009 to adjust her medications so that she could try in a year. On July 6th, Laura went for a routine blood test to make she her medication was ok. It was discovered that she was already pregnant!! She is due March 15th. Five days after Dan's birthday.

Laura went and got a baby life jacket and birthday bag. She wrapped up the lifejacket and left it on her bed for Dan to find. When Dan got home from work, he discovered the bag. He opened it up and at first thought the life jacket was for his nephew Dylan. After a second or two he figured it and was very excited about the new addition!!
