We have had quite a week.... Tuesday (3/9) Anthony and I received a phone call from a Pediatric Endocrinologist who talked a bunch of mumbo jumbo to me over the phone and told us to come in with the baby immediately to discuss a possible low salt count in AJ. I didn't understand ANYTHING she said, but I just figured I'd understand better once we go to the Dr's office. Turned out some of AJ's blood was dangerously low on a specific salt steroid and it wasn't working properly. So she sent us for more blood work right after visiting with her. Later that night at 10:30pm we received a phone call from her saying to go to the ER immediately to have it checked out over night. This was the WORST night of our lives!!!! We spent the night in a cubical looking hospital room with 2 "reclining" chairs, a jail cell looking crib and a cot without a pillow. The only thing separating us from the cubical next to us was a sheet hanging from the ceiling. It wasn't a very comforting place at all! We would get woken up throughout the entire need and meet Dr after Dr.... It was quite irritating to say the least! My poor baby was so miserable and had to get his blood drawn at least 10 times through the entire stay. And it's very hard for nurses to find his veins so they have to keep pricking the poor kid
Then as they were discharging us the following day at about 3pm they put him on 3 different types of salt/steroid meds! In addition to the ammoxicillin he's taking for his kidney for the next 4 and a half weeks. So thats FOUR meds!!!!!! One had to be taken 4 times a day, one 3 times a day, and the other 2 once a day, but 2 of the meds were in pill form and had to be crushed and mixed with water, put into a syringe and squirted into his mouth -- Supposedly for the rest of his life!!!!!! After we went home, we sat there with our moms trying to figure out a good feeding/medicine schedule and we managed to figure one out. He had to take some kind of med every 3 out of 24 hours in a day except for 3. He was not liking it one bit! Then the next day the endocrinologist called me and told me his salt levels were now normal and that I could stop all salt/steroid medications!!!!! I was soooo extatic!!!!! The next day our pediatrician called saying that his acid levels were now showing higher, but that it could be from getting so much blood drawn or from the medications too. So she wanted him to get blood drawn one more time and to look and see what they read. So this morning was the one last time and I just got a phone call saying ALL blood work is perfect!!!!!! Man, God is GOOD!!!!!! I have a perfect little baby!!!!! Now all we need to wait on is the kidney. I am waiting to hear back from Dr Hittelman's office to schedule his appointment for the follow-up visit, they said it should be 6 weeks from birth, so sometime mid-April. I can't wait for that appointment to be done too just so AJ can be off his antibiotics too! My little boy is such a trooper!!!!! He makes mommy & daddy sooooo happy!!!!!

Now AJ is in the Nursery and has been there since 2 hours after he was born because he was under 6 lbs when he was born. He is just a little low on his sugar levels and the nurses are trying to bring his numbers up to 50-60 and they're fluctuating between 40-55. so not too far off, but still just trying to get his numbers to stabilize so he can come stay with us in our room until we go home on Saturday morning at 11am! Tomorrow he is getting his circumcision and possibly an ultrasound on his kidney to see how it is doing. My poor little baby is going through a lot, well, it COULD be a lot worse, but he is a TROOPER!!!!

Afternoon Update: This morning we had an appointment at the OB and it was with Janet Spinner. We went in for a normal visit and first she told me my group b strep culture came back normal and she asked if they checked my cervix last week and i said no and ask if I would mind if she checked and I told her not at all! I actually wanted her to... Turns out I'm not yet dialated Evening Update: Went in for my ultrasound appointment tonite and the baby is doing fine phyisically, but I am actually on the lower side of normal when it comes to my amniotic fluid levels. They are at 6/7 and if it reaches 5 then they will induce me. I have another appointment on Wednesday for an ultrasound so if the numbers get any closer to 5 then we'll probably be induced! One thing about that day that'd be great is it's a 24th!!!!! That would be crazy if we had our baby on a 24th!!! But at the same time i realllllly want my mom to be here for the delivery! We will see how things go though....
But before all that she measured my uterus and felt it and said it is looking a little small. She thinks I am lacking amniotic fluid. So this afternoon at 2:30pm Anthony and I need to go to the New Haven office for a non-stress test to make sure the baby has enough fluid and such.... Also, she sent me to Quest to get more blood drawn to re-check for pre-eclampsia. I have to capture my urine for 24 hours starting from when I wake up tomorrow morning until Wednesday morning then bring it to the lab on Wednesday and get more blood drawn again! GRR!!!! This is never going to end!!!! So Dr Spinner also mentioned "having a baby early" today too.... I am really trying to push for Friday or Saturday at the earliest though. I just really want my parents to be here! So tomorrow morning I need to go to the OB office again to check my blood pressure again and then to talk to the dr about my lab results again. I am getting more and more anxious for AJ to come especially with all these things going on.... so much to know and remember!!! It's so overwhleming, but thank God for my wonderful and supporive husband, family, and friends!!

On Tuesday night before I went to bed I started to feel some pinching under my right rib, I knew something was wrong, but I just dealt with the pain and tried to sleep it off... It lasted all night and the next day. So on Wednesday at about 4:30 I called my OB-Gyn group and they on call Dr (Dr. Messner) called me back and told me to make an appointment for Thursday morning, even though I had an appointment on Friday afternoon. So this morning (Thursday) I went into my appointment and the Dr. (Dr. Kopel -- a Gyn, not an OB) diagnosed me with Pre-Eclampsia because of my swelling and elevated blood pressure. And also said the pain I had been feeling under my right rib is not a good sign... Freaked me out a bit to be honest. So she told me to go to Yale to the early birth floor and be assessed and get my blood work done there instead of going to Quest to get it drawn and have to wait 24 hours blah, blah, blah.... If it turned out I had severe pre-e they would INDUCE me today!!!!! So to make a long story short, I got hooked up to monitors and my blood pressure lowered, then the blood work all came back perfectly and there was no protein in my urine... This all meant I didn't have pre-e!! I was so happy because as ready as I am to have my little boy.... my mom wasn't here! She will be moving back here next Friday! So if AJ can just wait till then we'll be fine!! That is all I'm concerned about. I just want my mom to be here when I deliver. She was actually on her way to the airport and was going to wait there until I told her it was ok for her to go home. She was going to come!!!!
But it will just be so much more convenient if he can just wait till Feb 26th or later!!
So when we were on our way home from L&D I called my boss to tell him I needed to start my maternity leave now and that I am on strict bed rest. He was so great about it! I have the worlds best boss!! And he told me he would mail me my next 2 paychecks. I just felt horrible having to give him that news, but he is such a great boss and totally understands. I am so fortunate!!!

Last night Anthony and I went to our consult with Dr. Summers, the pediatrician. It went SOOOO well! I had a huge list of questions to ask and before I could even ask one he answered 95% of them!!!! I was quite impressed to say the least!! As soon as Anthony and I walked out of the Dr's office we looked at eachother and said, "This is where AJ's going!". We are so happy we finally have our pediatrician! The only thing that we needed to talk to him about was the hydronephrosis situation. I mentioned Dr. Hittelman's name and he immediately said, "Thats the one!". So I think when AJ's born I need to get Dr. Hittelman to come and evaluate him and then let Dr. Summers consult with him about his kidney. Dr. Summers said that he wouldn't be surprised if AJ's born and the hydronephrosis disappears. It was so great to hear that!!! And he said, like all the other Dr's have said, that he might just need some antibiotics for a short time to make sure it doesn't back up into the ureter, which right now it's not, thankfully!
So relieved that we finally have our pediatrician picked out!!! It's such a relief!!

AJ has definitely dropped! For the past few days I have been feeling lots of pelvic pressure when I open and close my legs. I am getting more and more anxious every day to see my little baby boy. I can't believe that in a matter of a few weeks Anthony & I will be having out little bundle of joy here with us!
Tomorrow Anthony and I will be off from work together because of a bad snow storm we're supposed to get and I'm really actually looking forward to just spending the day home relaxing with my hubby. Maybe even get some things done in the house to prepare for the baby (can you tell I'm already nesting?)...
I'm also counting down the days until my parents and my Nunnie (grandma) move back to CT! 14 days from today is when my grandma is moving back and 16 days from today is when my mom and dad will be back for good!!!! My dad has been here for about a month, but he's going back on Saturday, February 20th and coming back the 26th with my mom. SO EXCITED!!!!! So as long as AJ waits till the 26th to come then we'll be good... my whole family will be here for the birth of my first son!!!! EEEK!!!!!

Thankfully he was head down today at my ultrasound!!!!
hopefully he will stay like that! Although I think he made the flip over night last night because I started feeling major pressure "down there" today and I also felt him on my right side and usually I feel him on my left side, but all day he's been on my right... I just hope he stays this way, although im really not worrying about having natural or c-section just as long as he gets here safely! He's also weighing 4lbs 13oz and in the 45th percentile! He should be between 6-7 lbs at birth. The Dr's want me to come back in 4 weeks for another ultrasound "if I dont deliver by then". It sounded so crazy to hear them say that I might possibly have a child within the next 4 weeks!!! So, I have another ultrasound scheduled for march 5 if I make it that far! I hope he comes before that though!!!!
Nothing new with the kidneys... The right kidney is a little bigger than the last ultrasound, but thats only because AJ is bigger too. So the kidney is growing in proportion to him. I have been getting some excrutiating back pains! Ever since Wednesday night its been alomst unbearable. Anthony went out Wednesday night after dinner and bought me a heating pad and thats been a huge help for me, its just one more thing I need to deal with to get to my prize: Seeing my baby boy for the first time!
My baby shower on Sunday went AMAZINGLY well!!! My mother in law and mom did an amazing job and I really appreciated everything they did to make the day perfect!! We can now officially say we are ready for this little man to come into the world. We have EVERYTHING we could possibly need now.... the only thing we might get otherwise (that isn't an absolute necessity) is a pack 'n play. I think we'll get it though just because I've been told its a very very good item to have around with a newborn/toddler. So tomorrow maybe we'll stop at babies R us and pick one up, especially since they're discontinuing the "Deco" style we have in everything else. So this way it'll match all of our things

5 days and counting until my baby shower!!!! I cannot wait! My mom is coming in Friday afternoon and I'm looking forward to that too! It's going to be a really fun weekend. Saturday all day my mom and I will be baking cookies for the shower then at night we're probably going to order Thai food and watch "This is It" all together. I've really been wanting to see it! Then early to bed for the morning of my shower!!!! I just can't wait to see everyone and enjoy the day! Then Monday Anthony and I both have off from work to relax and look over our gifts and whatnot. I'm looking forward to that!!! My mom also mentioned she wanted to go to Babies R Us probably to look for a new crib since the one we have now can't be put together properly and it's also an older crib that probably has tons of recalls on it....
My next ultrasound is Feb 5 and I'm very much looking forward to that too because we will find out if the baby is breach or not. And I am soooo praying he is head down!!!! But if not then so be it, thats ok too!
PS. 7 Weeks to go!!!!

The Urologist, Dr Hittelman, finally called me today and said that when AJ's born they'll check his kidney because it's easier to check on him then through me, so at that point they'll check at birth then possibly put him on antibiotics. If I don't have a pediatrician by that time then there will be one at the hospital there to check him and let us know how his kidney is, but I'm planning on having a pediatrician for AJ by then. Dr. Hittelman asked me who I am planning on looking into and I told him Dr. Springer, Dr. Dorfman, Children's Medical Group, and Whitney Pediatrics. He told me his daughter actually goes to Children's Medical Group and that he thinks all 4 of the practices we're going to be looking into are great and if they weren't he'd tell me.
So back to the kidney story, when AJ's a month they'll check him again and then run more tests to see what needs to be done and if his urine is not backing up into his bladder then we'll just stop the meds
I am praying that it's what the last Dr said and it's only something in the maternal hormone, so this whole kidney situation will be done.

My ultrasound today went well, AJ's kidney is still the same, but at least its not bigger which is a good thing
I have to go back again in 4 weeks and in the mean time I need to call the pediatric urologist, Dr. Hittleman, to discuss after birth options. AJ def has ant's nose though!!!!! He weighed 2lb 12oz today
SO CUTE!!!! I'll be scanning the pictures any minute too! He was breech today and the tech said if he's still breech in 4 weeks we're going to have to schedule a C-section. She also said that usually women who have children will have babies that are the same size as you were at birth, and sometimes even bigger, which is another reason they think i might need a C-section since I was 9lb 1oz!!!!! We shall see what needs to be done in a few weeks though!!!

First off, HAPPY NEW YEAR 2010!!!!!!!!!
WOW! I officially have less than 10 weeks to go!!!! WOW!! I cannot believe I am in the single digits of my weeks countdown till I get to meet AJ!!!! Time is flyyyyying now! Well, it never really stopped flying for me LOL!
So, when I was between 28-29 weeks I started noticing less movement so I called my Dr's office and told them and they showed no concern because it's very, very common! I was still feeling the baby moving, but just in a different way now. Turns out the baby doesnt have much room in my uterus now and he doesn't have much room to make his normal "kicks" so now all I've been feeling (and seeing) is baby limbs here and there. Its crazy! I can ACTUALLY see him moving in me now, and not just a random kick!! And I can even tell when he's moving. I'm starting to get a better idea of what's what now. Is that the head or a leg, etc.... It's so fun! The other night I swear I felt some hick-ups because as I was going to be he was NOT stopping with his movements.... but it made me happy still
I love feeling my little boy moving!!
Today is a weird day for me. I feel like I am an emotional basket case today. As my aunt puts it, "if I drop my ice cream cone" I may cry. Best way to describe it. I don't know why I am feeling like crying, but I'm happy. It's so weird. Gotta love the many moods of a pregnant woman!!!

HOLY HEARTBURN!!!!!! I have been getting soooo much heartburn lately and I've been living on tums. Thats my only option, I guess... It stinks though, but it'll be over in 11 weeks (77 days), give or take a few....
This morning I just felt like checking on my registry to see if anything had been purchased since my baby shower invitations have gone out and low and behold, 3 things have been purchased!!!! I was so excited!!!! I can't wait for my baby shower!! Only 33 more days!!!

My Dr's appointment on Friday went pretty well! And it was my last 4 week visit!! My next visit is New Years Eve now! Ahhh next week!!! It's crazy because appointments are litterally flying by now!!!! At my visit the Dr measured my belly and it was measuring 29 cm, which she said was good, I was 27w 3d at the time so I was only like 1.5 cm bigger. She said as long is the cm difference is within 3 cm (3 more or 3 less) it's fine. Oh, and my glucose came back good!!! I passed and DON'T have gestational diabetes!!!!! THANK GOD!!! The Dr seems to think that because I am so short I MAY need to have a C-section, because she doesn't know if I'll be able to push AJ out without tearing. So we'll see....
Today I feel like I have no appetite, but that could be because starting tonite until Friday it's going to be FOOD, FOOD, FOOD!!! I'm not even thinking about food now though.... BLAH!
Plans for the baby shower are finally set in stone. January 31, 2010! My mother-in-law has booked the hall and everything. It will be at the Masonic Temple in Whitney Ave in Hamden. The guest list is pretty extravagant! 88 women and 18 children, including newborns! Thank God my mother in law and mom are ok with that big number though! It's so hard to get it lower. If you invite one person, you need to invite another and another, and so on and so on....
The days till our childbirth class are flying by too! I really can't wait until that too!!! I'm so excited to learn about everything!

So this morning I told Anthony and my mom how I'm concerned AJ isnlt moving AS MUCH and they both told me to call the Dr so I did and then the Dr called me back almost immediately and she said it's normal and as long as i'm feeling movement it's good. She said maybe he moved positions and is now head down, bottom up, or vice versa. and the reason I might not be feeling him at night lately is because maybe he's picking up on our sleeping routine, which is a really good thing! but now I'm actually looking forward to my appointment tomorrow because of this, but now I know I have nothing to worry about. She said it may be too soon to count kicks, but I can if I want to around a time when he's active, so maybe after lunch today I will for 1 hour? I need to get 10 kicks at least durring 1 hour. This morning I was sooo afraid that I'd be told to go to the hospital for an emergency C-section! I'm a crazy person!

WOW! I guess I have been so preoccupied with the holidays that I've forgotten to write as often as I used to... Gotta love this time of year! LOL
Thanksgiving has come and gone.... Christmas is almost 2 weeks away and I'm still in shock about that!!! We are going to Anthony's father's house for Christmas Eve, but we're having a little something at our house for Christmas Day, just some appetizers. Since I'll be entering my last trimester I am sure I'll be pretty beat.
We have officially settled on a date for the baby shower. It's going to be January 31 and my mom will be able to come!!!! SO excited about that!!!!!

Today we went for the ultrasound to see how AJ's kidneys are progressing. We were almost 30 mins late for the ultrasound appointment because of stupid traffic, but they took us almost immediately when we got there. His kidneys are still the same, but the Dr. said he probably won't need surgery after he's born, which is GREAT news!! He'll just need some antibiotics, not sure for how long, but that was very exciting news!!! The Dr. we saw today said the ONLY surgery he'll need (or should have) when he's borning is the circumcision, which we were planning on doing anyways. He said it will prevent him from getting lots of uriniary tract infections, which I didn't even know boys can get. We will find out how long he'll need to me on antibiotics, after he's born, closely following the next ultrasound visit (if the kidney's are still the same) when we meet with Dr. Hiddleman, the urologist. The Dr. said they'd do some ultrasounds on him when he's about 2 days old or something like that and as long as the kidney is just clogged then it's ok, as long as it's not backing up into a wrong tube he'll be fine. They said everything else still looks good on him though. I put up some new pictures from todays scan too. Now he's weighing 1lb 5oz!!!!! Our next ultrasound appointment to check on his kidneys is January 7 at 9:15am.
Yesterday we also booked our 1-day childbirth prep class. It's from 9-5pm on January 16. They told me to bring 2 pillows, one for me and one for Anthony, and to wear comfy clothes. They go over exercises, relaxation, breathing techniques, positioning for labor and birth, comfort measures, medication, anesthesia options and give a tour of maternity facilities and provide lunch and snacks. I'm nervous and excited at the same time because it's really REAL now!!!! I cannot believe theres only 16 more weeks left to my pregnancy!!!!! Or 3 and a half months!!!!! Or 112 days!!!!! EEKK!!!!

WOW it's been a whole 3 weeks since I last posted something on here so I think it's about time......
AJ has been kicking up a storm lately, I feel it ALLLLL the time now, especially when theres music or a room is noisy. He kicked about 4 or 5 time as I wrote the last sentence ALONE! I love feeling him move though! It reminds me that everything ok with him. And whats even crazier is that I can actually SEE him move!! I can't quite decipher what's what yet, but i can see my belly move when he kicks him certain spots. Even the other night Anthony felt him actually move, 3 times in a row!!! He freaked out.... in a good way! He was so happy that he finally felt what I have been feeling (kind of). It's only a matter of time before i actually see an arm or a foot or a leg
Sometimes I do feel his head move across my stomach though, and I have to say as amazing as it is, its quite strange to know that theres a 1 pound, foot long, human being INSIDE me right now!!! Amazing...
We have our Dr.'s appt on Friday with Dr. Messner, but we're more looking forward to Tuesday when we get to see how his kidney is progressing. I am praying that it healed on it's own, but if it didn't thats ok too.... It will be fixed before he comes home thank God!!! If the kidney is still blocked Tuesday then I need to go back for another ultrasound 4 weeks later and if it's still blocked at that visit then we need to make an appt with the pediatric urologist to discuss after birth options that we have such as surgery and whatnot. We'd be so grateful if we don't need to have that visit though!!!!!
I'll update more when we know what's going on.....

I was checking my voicemails at home this morning and noticed I had 2 voicemails so the first was from my grandfather and the 2nd was from Dr. Lima, the OB I saw last week who initially told me about AJ's kidney situation. He called me from his HOME! I thought this was so nice and so professional and it really made me and Anthony VERY happy!! He told me to call him back at home if I got the message or to call him tomorrow at the office so I obviously didn't get the call till this morning so I called him at the office this morning. He just called me back now and told me the other Dr I saw on monday said theres nothing to be worried about and he told me if I have any questions to call him. He is seriously the nicest Dr. I have dealt with YET!!!!! And who woulda thought because I never wanted a male OB!!!!
He also told me that a Urologist is going to be calling me and I told him everythings a little overwhelming but then he reassured me to call him anytime I have a question. Very impressive!

This morning we had our ultrasound at Yale. Again, AJ was measuring perfectly (and 10oz), with the acception of his kidney. But I was wrong on the "problem" kidney. It's actually the right one. The left one is working properly. The right one has a blockage that is preventing urine from releasing. The Dr. we spoke to said on the medical level of this situation he isn't worried at all, but on the parental level he can understand us being concerned. We ended up speaking with a genetics specialist and they are going to be speaking with a kidney specialist who is going to be getting in touch with me and letting us know what can be done after birth. Nothing can really be done before birth since there is such high risks towards the pregnancy if we were to do anything or attempt to do anything to the kidney. So we're just going to be waiting till AJ comes to see what needs to be done, and who knows, this may actually clear up on its own which is also very, very common! I am praying that that happens. Again, I'm just very greatful and appreciative that this is just 1 kidney and he still has one properly working kidney!
The Dr. said that's why he wouldn't be worried, on the medical level. We are going back November 24th (I'll be 24 weeks) for another ultrasound to see how his kidney is progressing. We hope to hear some good news!!! And we also still have the Dr's appointment through the OB-Gyn office on November 20th.
By the way, the ultrasound tech also said it's a boy! So we had THREE different techs tell us boy so there is NO DOUBT!!!!! ![]()
More info to come as we get it....

Today we had the ultrasound at the Dr's office and we are now 100% SURE it's a BOY!!!!! The ultrasound tech was doing the exam and she said he is weighing 9oz everything was measuing correctly and perfectly, except for his left kidney, it's a little small. So the Dr I saw today (Dr. Lima) said it is VERY common in boys to have one kidney smaller than the other and he ordered an ultrasound to be done Monday morning at one of Yale's branches on Longwarf in New Haven, just tobe safe. Their ultrasound machines are MUCH more advanced than the ones at my Dr's office so they want me to go there and just make sure his kidney is ok. The Dr warned me that they are going to make me feel HORRIBLE and to not let them do that to me. He said for me to just be calm and relax and know that everythings going to be fine with the baby. Plus, I told myself.... People are able to live with ONE kidney and my baby has 1 normal sized one and a smaller one so the odds are definitely in his favor!!!! Other than the kidney problem our little AJ is kicking up a storm and it was so cool because as we were watching him kick this morning on the ultrasound video I could actually feel the kicks simultaneously -- AMAZING!!!!
All we are really able to do is keep my little baby boy and his left kidney in our prayers. My next prenatal appointment is on November 20th at 2:45pm.
